Suspension on the Acceptance of New Water Permit Applications in Tagbilaran City, Baclayon, and Panglao Island

Based on NWRB records, Tagbilaran City was one of the cities identified as critical due to issues on water availability. In 2018, GEOSPHERE Technologies Inc. was commissioned by NWRB to undertake the preparation of the Development of Groundwater Management Plan (GMP) for Tagbilaran City and surrounding areas. Salt water intrusion is already present in the shoreline of Tagbilaran City, Baclayon, Cortes, Maribojoc, Dauis and Panglao per results of the study. Moreover, the water-demand supply analysis presented that the water demand for municipalities like Baclayon, Tagbilaran, Dauis and Panglao have already exceeded the sustainable groundwater between 2005 to present.

It is being proposed that the Board imposes a suspension on the acceptance of new water permit applications where the proposed water sources are deepwells and shallow wells. Provided further those petitions for increase of water volume within Tagbilaran City, Baclayon Panglao Island (Dauis and Panglao) are also suspended.
