NWRB leads Water Sector Convergence Dialogue for the National Water Plan

The National Water Resources Board convened water-related government agencies and private institutions to discuss the water sector’s current issues for the creation of the National Water Plan (NWP).

The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) represented the Philippines in the Consultation Meeting on ASEAN-ROK Cooperation Project entitled “Building Resilience for Sustainable ASEAN (From Water Related Disasters)” during the 2016 Chuncheon Global Water Forum that was held on September 7-8, 2016 in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, Korea. The NWRB was represented by Policy and Program Division Chief Isidra D. Peñaranda.

Drought to linger even after El Niño, water expert warns

An Australian expert on water management has warned that the the Philippines is at risk of massive water shortage even after the El Niño phenomenon passes because of inadequate policies to govern water use in the face of expanding roads, housing projects, malls and other infrastructure.
Prof. Stuart White, director of Institute for Sustainable Futures of the University of Technology Sydney said the Philippines needs to step up policy measures to mitigate the impact of drought as well as balance water supply and demand to meet infrastructure development.

The National Water Resources Board, together with Manila Water, led the kick-off event for this year’s World Water Day and Philippine Water Week Celebration through an exhibit showcasing different government and private water agencies in the Philippines. The display, held in TriNoma mall in Quezon City, is in line with the 2016 theme, Water and Jobs.
