NWRB WELCOMES SIX-MEMBER DELEGATION FROM CHINA MWR

National Water Resources Board (NWRB) Executive Director Dr. Sevillo D. David Jr. warmly welcomed the six-member delegation from China Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) headed by Vice Minister Ye Jianchun last October 20, 2018 at Makati Shangri-La, Manila.
The delegation’s 3-day stay in the Philippines includes dialogue meetings with different water-related agencies and field visits to water-related projects which will be conducted on October 21 - 23, 2018.
The visit’s highlight was the dialogue with DENR officials on October 22 at the department’s central office. As presider of the dialogue meeting, DENR Undersecretary Rodolfo C. Garcia stated that the visit will strengthen communication between both countries and lay the foundation of collaboration in the future and anticipation for another productive engagement with China through the MWR.
Vice Minister Ye Jianchun pointed out that although both countries have different water conditions, both countries are affected by climate change and have similar water challenges. He further said that the meeting was a good way to improve mutual understanding and a good foundation for a practical cooperation.
He stated “I expect to make the joint efforts with your Excellency together to contribute to the improvement of water management capabilities of both countries.”
The dialogue meeting was organized by the NWRB in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) along with the different water-related agencies, namely: Department of Agriculture (DA), National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), National Power Corporation (NPC), Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), Climate Change Commission (CCC) and Office of the Civil Defense-National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (OCD-NDRRMC). Each of them had a brief presentation and exchange of knowledge on water resources management through an open forum.
After the dialogue, the Chinese delegates proceeded to the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) and was greeted by General Manager Jaime C. Medina. They went to the Laguna Lake area for a field visit.
The Chinese delegates also visited the Angat Dam located in Norzagaray, Bulacan and had the chance to explore the dam crest and spillway. They were accompanied by NWRB Engr. Valen V. Juan and NPC Flood Forecasting Division Chief, Mr. Alexander Palada.
