World Water Day Awards 2018

The National Water Resources Board and Maynilad, together with partner institutions, recognized 18 water champions in this year’s World Water Day Awards led by Senator Cynthia Villar at the Novotel Hotel, Quezon City.

“It is a must for us to protect our waterways and bodies of water to ensure that they are safe, clean and healthy for our own safety, health and survival. Rest assured that I will continue to champion those causes” said Senator Villar, who was hailed as Kampeon ng Katubigan, during her speech.

The rest of the awardees include Unilever Philippines (Water Conservation Education Award), Manila North Tollways Corporation (Water Leadership Award), Annie Baluyot of Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela City (Water Leadership Award), Engr. Reynaldo Valdrez (Kawal ng Kalikasan), Technical Working Group on Solid Waste Management Policy (Kawal ng Kalikasan), Better Tunasan River Army (Kampeon ng Lawa), Cabuyao River Protection Advocates (Kampeon ng Lawa), Tanaw de Rizal (Kampeon ng Lawa), Mr. Mandy Mariño (Kampeon ng Lawa), Philippine Coast Guard (Huwarang Alagad ng Ilog Pasig), Lydia Codiñera ( Water Warrior Award for Capacity Building), Allan Chua (Water Warrior Award for Environmental Sustainability), Engr. Ma. Teresa Combatir (Water Warrior Award for Industry Leadership), Metropolitan Naga Water District (Huwarang Lingkod Tubig Luzon), Silay City Water District (Huwarang Lingkod Tubig Visayas), and Butuan City Water District (Huwarang Lingkod Tubig Mindanao).

NWRB honored the city of Taguig in this year’s awarding ceremony. It was conferred for their sustainable water conservation programs implemented in key establishments within the city. These programs include education and infrastructure initiatives that encourage water conservation, water recycling and positive habit formation among Taguig residents.

In the closing message of Dr. Sevillo D. David Jr., Executive Director of NWRB, he encouraged everyone to continually protect our water resources and treat each day as World Water Day.
