NWRB launches a Symposium on Water Security for World Water Day 2015 Celebration

The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) gathered different stakeholders from the water sector to put heads together and impart knowledge on water security as a vital component in sustainable development at the Sequioa Hotel, Quezon City on March 18, 2015.

Among the initial topics presented are Water Security and its Dimensions by Asian Development Bank (ADB) Senior Finance Specialist Stella Tansengco-Schapero, Water for Ecosystem's Health by University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Associate Dean Marlo Mendoza, Water Security in a Changing Climate by Climate Change Commission (CCC) representative Arnold Grant Belver, and Proposed United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) staff Diane Llanto.

The second session was composed of talks on the introduction of NWRB and its programs and projects as well as the status of different sub-sectors such as coverage in water supply and sanitation and irrigation, among others by Program and Policy Division Chief Engr. Isidra Peñaranda, MWSS Water Security Roadmap by Engr. Nestor Lualhati of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, and the water management best practices of Nestlé Philippines by its Executive Vice President for Corporate Affairs Mr. Jess Reyes.

The activity was wrapped up by a workshop and synthesis discussing the future and vision of stakeholders on water security in the Philippines and how will it affect the welfare and development of the generations to come. It was facilitated by Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Philippines representative Ms. Agnes Balota.

The event entitled “Symposium on Water Security Towards Sustainable Development,” was attended by more than 80 participants from government agencies, private entities, key players and the academe. It was organized by the National Water Resources Board as part of the celebration of Philippine Water Week and World Water Day 2015.
