Philippine Water Week and World Water Day Celebration 2017

March 15-22, 2017

The National Water Resources Board is in the forefront of this year’s Philippine Water Week and World Water Day celebration leading activities in line with the 2017 theme “Water and Wastewater.”

The weeklong celebration started with a photo exhibit of the different facets of wastewater. It showed the negative consequences of untreated wastewater to the environment and health as well as its positive effects when properly handled and treated.

The launching of the three-day exhibit was attended by representatives from different national agencies and private entities led by DENR Assistant Secretary Nonita Caguioa, NWRB Executive Director Sevillo David Jr., and Mr. Fernando Busuego from Manila Water.

In the middle of the week, NWRB conducted a students’ forum entitled “Why Waste Water? A Forum on the Potential of Wastewater” held on March 20 at the MWSS Compound, Quezon City.

Students from the University of the Philippines, Central Colleges of the Philippines and Far Eastern University joined the forum discussing the economic, health and environmental valuation of wastewater when it is treated and reused. Speakers from Metro Manila concessionaires Maynilad and Manila Water showcased their wastewater treatment facilities. Baliwag Water District presenter also showed their facility and the good practices being observed by the company.

The week’s activities were capped with the World Water Day 2017 Awards held at the Quezon City Sports Club during the actual WWD on March 22. Fourteen water heroes were recognized due to their efforts in saving our precious water resources and the environment.

Among the World Water Day Activities organized by other member-agencies were tree planting, coastal and river clean-up and information campaign.
