NWRB Represents PH in Korea Consultation Meeting


The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) represented the Philippines in the Consultation Meeting on ASEAN-ROK Cooperation Project entitled “Building Resilience for Sustainable ASEAN (From Water Related Disasters)” during the 2016 Chuncheon Global Water Forum that was held on September 7-8, 2016 in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, Korea. The NWRB was represented by Policy and Program Division Chief Isidra D. Peñaranda.

The said meeting aimed to present, discuss and share to other countries the status of the preparation of the National Assessment Report and how to proceed as well as the expected future direction for building resiliency for a sustainable ASEAN. The meeting was also held back to back with the 2016 Chuncheon Global Water Forum.

The NWRB, together with the consultant, conducted an inter-agency meeting with different agencies relative to water-related disasters such as the Office of Civil Defense, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau (MGB) and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to present the project and to gather data and information needed in the preparation of the National Assessment Report.  

The ASEAN Working Group on Water Resources Management (AWGWRM) spearheaded this project wherein the NWRB is the Philippines’ focal agency. The project objective is to strengthen resiliency in ASEAN countries against water-related disasters in the region through close cooperation between the ASEAN and Korea, by sharing knowledge and experience for effective policy-making in their respective national governments and towards regional cooperation.

The schedule of the 2nd consultation is on October 31 to Nov. 1, 2016 to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia and the final report is expected to be submitted by December 2016.
