AWGWRM Holds Annual Meeting
The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) represented the Philippines in the 16th Meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Water Resources Management (AWGWRM) held on 1-3 June 2016 in Luang Prabang Province LAO, PDR. NWRB serves as the focal point for the Philippines in AWGWRM.
During the open session of the meeting, on-going proposed AWGWRM collaborations were presented namely: (a.) ASEAN-UNDP Proposal on Reducing Pollution and Preserving Environmental Flows in the East Asian Seas through the implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (b.) Republic of Korea-initiated Project on Building Resilience for Sustainable ASEAN from water-related disasters (c.) Proposed Collaboration between AWGWRM and Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia and (d) Bridge: Building River Dialogue and Governance for the Mekong Region: the Sekong, SEsan and Sre Pok Rivers.
Philippines’ delegates NWRB Deputy Executive Director Engr. Jorge M. Estioko and Policy and Program Division Chief Isidra D. Peñaranda updated the working group on the status of the activities on Knowledge Sharing and Exchange Activities in the ASEAN region and Exchanging Information and Creating Awareness in a Structured Basis between Peak Bodies.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and envoys from the ASEAN Secretariat.
